Location:
The Elberton, Georgia facility is an ideal location for our camp. Set in a peaceful and quiet environment, it is considered to be one of the premier training facilities for rowing in the southern USA. Situated on beautiful Lake Russell, part of the Savannah River system, the venue combines both comfortable, relaxing accommodation with ideal rowing conditions. The lake is over 40 km long and provides sheltered and calm conditions to practice our sculling. There are very few users of the lake at this time of the year with only the occasional fisherman to be seen.
The Lake and facility is called Richard B. Russell State Park click here to see more.
Coaching:
The coaching for the camp will be of the highest quality. Our 2005 coaches included Peter Somerwil, Head Coach at Brock University; Peter Cookson, ARA Silver Award Coach; Alan Bennett, former coach with the Australian National Team; and Michelle Darvill, 4 times a world champion in various sculling events as well as a host of other coaches to augment the staff.
What to Expect:
The week will begin with arrival after 4:00pm on Saturday, February 24th 2007. At that point we can check into our accommodation. The camp will begin early on the Sunday beginning with an introductory discussion at 8:00am.
The camp is suitable for all levels and beginners are most welcome at this camp. We have a large selection of high quality equipment available and each participant will be assigned a boat that is suitable for their level and experience.
The sessions will be geared to the level of each participant with the more experience scullers going for longer rows along the 40 km long lake. Video taping and review will happen daily and there will be ample opportunity to discuss your progress with the instructors.
The weekly rate includes seven nights accommodation based on double occupancy, daily continental breakfast, coaching, seminars, use of high-quality equipment, your own video to take home and a CRC t-shirt.
Accommodation:
The accommodation for participants consists of modern, well-equipped waterfront cabins with sleeping for 4 people in 2 bedrooms and full cooking facilities. The cabins are clean, spacious and warm and provide a relaxing place for peace and rest between rows. Each cabin includes a fireplace, a wrap around covered porch overlooking the water and surrounded by forest.
The park also provides other sporting amenities such as excellent running trails, an 18 hole championship golf course, disc golf, beach volleyball and superb roads for roller blading.
